[yim036] DMV_Ch.11_Powering in a Seaway

This is the Chapter 11 - Powering in a Seaway

The main objective in the design of marine vehicle is the capability to sustain speed in a seaway. Traditionally, designer shall determined allowance 15-30% from still water performance, for wind and waves. Loss of speed of vessel in a seaway is not always due to the added resistance, the speed is often voluntary reduced in order to decrease the violent heaving and pitching motion of the vessel which caused slamming, excessive shipping of green water, high accelaration and propeller racing.

[yim036] DMV_Ch.13_Wave Loads

By determining loads that correspond to the largest actual load the vessel, ship designer could expected to produced a succesfull design of a ship structure for seaway operation. Empirical methods based on past experienced are used to predict the actual service loads the vessel will subject to during its operation. at present, an efficient design must be based on proper determination f loads, including those in the athwartship plane and dynamic loads (slamming and whipping) as well as the effect of vessel speed and the other relevant factors.

[yim036] DMV_Ch.16_Seakeeping Consideration in Design

The Success of ship design depends ultimately on its performance in a seaway. The prediction of ship motions, resistance and propulsion characteristic, structural loas and dynamic effects in a realistic seaway is such a complex problem that ship designers are generally forced to select their hull forms and ship dimensions on the basis of calm water performance without much consideration of the sea and the weather condition. Recent Sophicasted experimental techniques and computer applications in ship motion theories have made it possible for ship designer to consider the seakeeping qualities of his ship at an early stage. It shall be noted that any analysis of the seakeeping design is essentially of probabilistic nature, since the environment it self in which the ship operates can be analyzed only in a probabilistic manner by statistical methods

[yim036] DMV_Ch.10_Nonlinear Rolling Motion-unCoupled-

The study of rolling motion in small angle has been approximatelly correct using linear equation of motion. For Larger angle, more linearities become more significant, and the result of the linear approximation is doubtful.
The aim of this subject is to predict a vessel maximum rolling amplitude due to wave resonance or other non linear phenomena.
By using several numerical solution for rolling motion, the difficulties of equation could solve by computer calculation. In fact, there are the fourth order Runge-Kutta method.

[yim036] DMV_Ch.6_Motion in an Irregular Seaways

The Response of ship in an irregular seaway follows the same statistical laws as do the waves. Records of ship responses show patterns similar to those of wave records. Therefore, instead of having a graph for the square of each component wave component wave amplitude as a function of frequency, one can have a graph of the square of the rolling (or any other motion) amplitude that the particular wave component of that amplitude and frequency would produce. The resulting spectrum known as the response spectrum will give similar statistical properties to those obtained in the case of sea waves. Energy Spectrum method is utilized.

[yim036] DMV_Ch.4_UnCoupled Motion

Uncoupled Heaving, Pitching, and Rolling Motions

This part is only discussed one degree of ship oscillatory motions . Three kind of motion namely, heaving, rolling and pitching are purely oscillatory motion, since these motions act under a restoring force or moment when the ship is disturbed from its equilibrium position.
Other kind of motion, ie surging, swaying or yawing, the ship does not return to
its original equilibrium if disturbed from it unless the exciting forces or moments that cause such a disturbance act alternately from opposite direction.
Equation of motion for each oscillatory motion as single term were described.

[hpmv05]Investigation of Sway, Roll and Yaw Motions of a Ship

Investigation of Sway, Roll and Yaw Motions of a Ship with Forward Speed: Numerical modeling for flared up conditions

Das, SK and Das, SN and Sahoo, PK Investigation of Sway, Roll and Yaw Motions of a Ship with Forward Speed: Numerical modeling for flared up conditions. In: Fifth International Conference on High Performance Marine Vehicles, 8-10 November 2006, Launceston, Tasmania, Australia.

Abstract

The paper deals with the numerical modeling of sway, roll and yaw motions of a ship for flared-up conditions with zero or nonzero forward speeds in sinusoidal waterway. Nonlinear roll restoring characteristics and speed dependent strip theory that are obtained from the Frank's close-fit method used to compute hydrodynamic forces. The governing equations are solved numerically by using Runge-Kutta-Gill method with adaptive step size adjustment algorithm. In order to investigate the effect of nonlinear restoring in roll, numerical experiments have been carried out for a Panamax Container ship under the action of sinusoidal wave of periodicity 11.2 sec with varying wave height and speed. To emulate the soft spring behaviour, nonlinear restoring moment is represented by an odd order polynomial of roll angle where the corresponding coefficients are obtained by analyzing the results of numerical experiments. This modeling approach provides an important guideline to understand the role of various parameters while flared up conditions occurs, emphasizing the need for its controlling mechanisms.

[yim127] Corrosion Science and Technology-Talbot (1997)

Corrosion is the transformation of metallic structures into other chemical structures, most often through the intermediary of a third structure, i.e., water and a first task is to characterize these structures and examine how they determine the sequences of events that result in metal wastage.
These matters are the subjects of Chapters 2, 3, 4, and 5. The information is applied in Chapter 6 to examine the options available for the most usual strategy to control corrosion, the application of protective coatings. Chapters 7 through 9 examine the attributes and corrosion behavior of three groups of metallic materials, plain carbon steels and irons, stainless steels, and aluminum alloys.
The final chapters deal with some practical implications. Corrosion control is only one aspect of the technologies within which it is exercised and the approaches adopted must accommodate other requirements in the most economic way. For this reason, some total technologies are selected to illustrate how the approach to corrosion control is conditioned by their particular circumstances.

[4F/CF02] ANSI/AISC 341-05 : Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings

ANSI/AISC 341-05 : Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings

This specification is a companion to
ANSI/AISC 360-05 : the Specification for Structural Steel Buildings that extends coverage to the connection detailing and member design requirements for structural steel and composite structural steel and reinforced concrete systems in high-seismic applications. This new standard, dated March 9, 2005, replaces and updates the 2002 Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings as well as incorporating provisions for two new systems: buckling-restrained braced frames and special plate shear walls. Supplement No. 1 , dated November 16, 2005, is incorporated into the new seismic provisions which affects only the section on ordinary concentrically braced frames (OCBF).

Istilah Utama Kapal

Panjang Kapal.
LOA : Length over all

LPP : Length between perpendiculars.

AP : Garis tegak buritan (After Perpendicular)
FP : Garis tegak haluan (Fore Perpendicular)
LWL : Panjang garis air (Length of Water Line)

BWL : Breadth of water line (lebar pada garis air muat).
BOA : Breatdh over all (lebar maksimum).

Tinggi Geladak.
H (D) : Depth of Hull (tinggi terendah dari geladak).

However, most practicing engineers and technologists have only a basic understanding of how they can actively participate in this urgent economic and environmental issue. Now, students and professionals can turn to this newly revised edition of the trusted Corrosion and Corrosion Control for coverage of the latest developments in the field, including advances in knowledge, new alloys for corrosion control, and industry developments in response to public demand.

This Fourth Edition presents an updated overview of the essential aspects of corrosion science and engineering that underpin the tools and technologies used for managing corrosion, enhancing reliability, and preventing failures. Although the basic organization of the book remains unchanged from the previous edition, this new update includes:

  • An introduction to new topics, including the element of risk management in corrosion engineering and new advanced alloys for controlling corrosion
  • Expanded discussions on electrochemical polarization, predicting corrosion using thermodynamics, steel reinforcements in concrete, and applications of corrosion control technologies in automotive, nuclear, and other industries
  • A stronger emphasis on environmental concerns and regulations in the context of their impact on corrosion engineering
  • A discussion of the challenge of reliability in nuclear reactors; stainless steels; the concept of critical pitting temperature; and information on critical pitting potential (CPP)
Complemented with numerous examples to help illustrate important points, Corrosion and Corrosion Control, Fourth Edition enables readers to fully understand corrosion and its control and, in turn, help reduce massive economic and environmental loss. It is a must-read for advanced undergraduates and graduate students in engineering and materials science courses, as well as for engineers, technologists, researchers, and other professionals who need information on this timely topic.
